The San Francisco 49ers (4-0) host the Dallas Cowboys (3-1) on Sunday night in what is widely expected to be the game of the week. The Cowboys have been dominating their opponents other than the Week 3 slip-up against the Arizona Cardinals. The 49ers won all of their games by more than a touchdown other than the Rams’ last-second cover in Week 2 to make it a seven-point game.

Main Storylines to Watch

Can the 49ers stay undefeated against their hardest opponent yet? The 49ers are undefeated through four games but have yet to beat a team that has a winning record through four games. This is by far the best team the 49ers will have played. Sunday night should be an amazing matchup and one of the most hyped matchups of the season so far.

Will the Cowboys get revenge for their playoff loss from last season? The Cowboys lost to the 49ers 19 to 12 in the divisional round of the playoffs last season. The Cowboys are coming into this matchup making it known this is not just another game, while the 49ers are considering this to be just another game. Do the extra emotions on the Cowboys’ end give them an edge or be a burden?

Main Storylines to Watch

How do the Cowboys respond after laying an egg in Week 3? The Cowboys went into Week 3 as 12.5-point favorites and left Week 3 with a 12-point loss. The Cowboys offense moved the ball well enough but struggled mightily in the redzone. Cowboys will hope a healthier offensive line can make their lives easier in the redzone.

What can Bill Belichick learn from the Cowboys’ Week 3 struggles? No one will argue that Bill Belichick is still a defensive mastermind. Bill now has tape on what worked against the Cowboys’ offense and defense. Can he and the offensive coaching staff craft a game plan to exploit the Cowboys’ weaknesses?

Main Storylines to Watch

Can the Cardinals cover after two surprisingly close games in Week 1 and Week 2? The Cardinals have covered the spread in both of their first two weeks. They came into the season as the most likely team to earn the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Cardinals have been at least a touchdown underdog in both weeks and came out with a four-point loss in Week 1 and a three-point loss in Week 2.

Will the Cowboys get up for this Week 3 matchup as very heavy favorites? The Cowboys have beaten their opponents in the first two weeks by a combined 60 points. This team is absolutely demolishing their opponents. This Week 3 matchup against one of the worst teams in the NFL is looking like another blowout on paper. Will the Cowboys be able to get up enough for what is expected to be another blowout?

Main Storylines to Watch

Will the Cowboys’ offense need to do much in Week 2? The Cowboys could have punted every first down and still won last week. The defense dominated the whole game. This Week 2 matchup against the Jets and Zach Wilson is set up to be another juicy matchup for this defense. If the defense keeps dominating as it did in Week 1, the Cowboys won’t need to pass much thus making their passing game fantasy options less valuable.

How does the Jets offense look with a week of planning for Zach Wilson as the starter? For right now, Zach Wilson is still the starter of this Jets team. Does the offense change to lean more toward the run game? It will be interesting to see just how much these Jets’ offensive assets will be affected by the projected downgrade at the QB position.

Cowboys(-175) @ Giants(+145): O/U 45.5
Cowboys -3.5 (-105), Giants +3.5(-115)

These NFC East rivals open up their season in New York playing in the Sunday Night slot. This should be a close matchup of teams that know each other well. With a Vegas project score of Cowboys 24.5 to Giants 21.0, this game should provide ample offensive production for fantasy purposes. Giants have struggled mightily against the Cowboys in recent years, but with a whole offseason to prepare for this matchup, is this the game they flip the script and beat the Cowboys at home?

Main Storylines to Watch

Who is the second option in the Cowboys’ passing game? The Cowboys are projected to have a top-ten offense this year again with Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Tony Pollard leading the way. Normally in top ten offense, you see more than one pass catcher providing fantasy value, but the Cowboys have a question mark there at the moment. Many project their new wideout to the team, Brandin Cooks, will fill that role, but Michael Gallup is another year away from his ACL injury and could see an uptick in volume as well. In the past, the Cowboys have incorporated their tight ends in the offense as well. Jake Ferguson has been impressive at camp and could establish himself as a weekly starter at the tight end position in fantasy.

Will any Giants’ wide receiver separate themself from the crowd? The Giants pass catchers will be led by Darren Waller at tight end with Saquon Barkley being a major threat in the pass game out of the backfield. Will any Giants’ wideout be trustworthy in fantasy this year? They have six names who all have a real argument to be the top guy, but most likely there will be no lead guy. Hopefully, a Giants WR breaks out, but as of now we just have to wait and see

Dallas Cowboys

QB

Dak Prescott: Last season, Prescott was uncharacteristically turnover-prone throwing for 15 interceptions in 12 games started. Dak finished as the QB16 in points-per-game in 2022. Maybe the injuries were the cause of the subpar play from Prescott, but most in the industry expect him to be in the QB8 – QB12 range this season. Dak is a solid starting option in this Week 1 Sunday Night matchup.

RB

Tony Pollard: Pollard broke out last season as the RB8 in the split backfield with Zeke Elliott. This season Pollard is the projected bellcow back with no proven help behind him in the depth chart. Pollard has always been a player who has been very efficient with his touches. Will the increase in touches decrease his efficiency this year? If not, Pollard could be in line for top 3 fantasy RB finish this year. If you have Pollard you are starting Pollard whenever healthy.

Fantasy Recap: Buccaneers @ Cowboys (9/11/22) https://sportsethos.com/articles/hoop-ball-fantasy-basketball-features/fantasy-recap-buccaneers-cowboys-9-11-22/ https://sportsethos.com/articles/hoop-ball-fantasy-basketball-features/fantasy-recap-buccaneers-cowboys-9-11-22/#respond Mon, 12 Sep 2022 21:38:12 +0000 https://sportsethos.com/?p=372617 Final score: Buccaneers 19, Cowboys 3 (Bucs covered -2.5, U50)

This was an absolute brutal game for fantasy and real life purposes.  In what was expected to be a thrilling SNF game, there was only one touchdown scored, which came in the third quarter, but otherwise it was just a field goal parade.  The biggest storylines in this game is the injuries to key players. Dak Prescott will require thumb surgery and miss six to eight weeks as a result, putting anyone that rosters Cowboys players in a world of hurt for the next two months. For the Bucs, Chris Godwin hurt his hamstring and will miss a few weeks as well.

Buccaneers

QB

Tom Brady had an absolute stinker as the Bucs relied heavily on the ground game to get the job done.  Brady only completed 18 passes for 212 yards, one touchdown and one interception.  He comfortably ranks in the bottom-10 in Week 1 for QBs, but this will not be a regular occurrence for him.

RB

Fournette was one of the few bright spots for fantasy in this game, even though he did not find the end zone. He rushed 21 times for 127 yards and hauled in both of his targets for 10 yards. He will continue to flirt with the top-12 rankings each week if he is keeps a workload similar to what he saw in Week 1. If only he got into the end zone, it would have been a huge week.
